Who we are

Our story begins in 1942 between Padua and the Venice lagoon, in one of the most prestigious footwear districts in the world, the Riviera del Brenta.

Through the Fratelli Rossi brand, we carry on our family's tradition and passion for handcrafted made in Italy shoes.

Here we have collected the most important steps that have determined the history and success of our family, who's work is still present in the shape and soul of the shoes we create today.

1942

The beginning of the story takes us back to 1942, when the passion for the art of footwear led our great-grandfather Narciso Rossi to start a small workshop for women's shoes - which initially was limited to the production of one or two pairs a day.

This small shoe factory of a few craftsmen - whose precious work was handed down from father to son - became known in 1947 as Rossimoda.

Thanks to the efforts of our grandfather Diego and his brothers Luigino and Dino (the Fratelli Rossi), a small but more consistent number of shoes branded Fratelli Rossi started to be produced.

At the beginning of the '60s, Luigino Rossi began to wander about the streets of Paris, remaining enchanted by the shops, in particular the one of Jourdan, along the Champs Elysees, which at the time sold the shoes signed by him and Christian Dior.

I am in front of the window of Jourdan and I see a pair of sandals with a square and chromed heel 6 cm high. As usual, I photographed all the shoes in the window to learn and get inspired.

One day I decided to enter the shop and Roland Jourdan himself asked me if I was an Italian shoe manufacturer: he understood it from the way I picked up the shoes.

I answered him by showing off some French that I had learned during my evening classes, and I introduced myself explaining that I was a small craftsman located in the Riviera del Brenta who made women's shoes and was in love with his models and styles.

Shortly thereafter they met in Romand, in France, to visit Jourdan's factory and to evaluate the shoes produced by the Rossi brothers (Fratelli Rossi).

No one imagined that soon after the Rossi brothers would have obtained the licenses to produce luxury shoes for the most famous names in the international fashion scene: from Charles Jourdan to Christian Dior and Yves St Laurent (1963), from Givenchy (1973) and Ungaro (1979), to Calvin Klein and Fendi (1991).

DURING THE 40 YEARS TO COME, ROSSIMODA WOULD BECOME ONE OF THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS ITALIAN NAMES FOR THE PRODUCTION OF LUXURY SHOES FOR WOMEN. TODAY ROSSIMODA IS RECOGNIZED FOR HAVING DEVELOPED THE RIVIERA DEL BRENTA INTO ONE OF THE WORLD'S MOST IMPORTANT FOOTWEAR DISTRICTS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF LUXURY WOMEN'S SHOES.

The Fratelli Rossi brand

The will to carry on a family tradition and the passion for Italian craftsmanship, together with the strong know-how acquired, led our family during the late 90s to the decision to once again commercialize and distribute the historic Fratelli Rossi brand.

Thanks to the collaboration with technical modellists and craftsmen, the production of shoes for men and women resumed, thus starting a new chapter for the historic brand of the Rossi family, perceived as luxury Made in Italy footwear.

The brand is built upon the craftsmanship of Italian Shoe Masters, who express an art made of experience, tradition, creativity and uncompromising quality.
This is precisely what makes us constantly seek the best of Italian craftsmanship. We work with small and large companies that create real objects of art, where the work is done with the same manual skills and methods of the past.
